Session summary

1. Drop a lecture PDF (up to 35 MB, about 100 pages). Slides, notes, or a reading packet all work.
2. Pick a deck or create a new one. Every generated card lands there.
3. Paste your learning objectives. Write them like a study guide: exam topics, mechanisms, definitions, comparisons. Use Focus and Ignore under Advanced to steer further.
4. Choose "After generating, also send to". Just Hamstr, Anki, Anki file, Quizlet, or CSV. The export runs the moment the cards are ready.
5. Generate. Cards save to your Library automatically. The "Cards created" window lets you edit or remove any card and export again.

Each generation uses one upload from your plan. Exports never cost an upload.

Pick a target on the Generate screen, use the "Take them anywhere" row after generating, or open any deck in Library and click Export ▾.

Anki (live, via AnkiConnect)

1. One-time setup: open Anki → Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons…, paste the code 2055492159, click OK, then restart Anki.
2. Keep Anki open while you export. Cards go into an Anki deck with the same name as your Hamstr deck, tags included.
3. If Anki isn't reachable, Hamstr tells you — use "Anki file" instead.

Anki file (no add-on)

1. Hamstr saves a .txt import file (a save dialog opens).
2. In Anki: File → Import, choose the file, click Import. Basic and Cloze cards both import correctly.

Quizlet

1. Hamstr copies the cards to your clipboard.
2. On quizlet.com: Create → Flashcard set → Import, paste, keep Tab between term and definition and New line between cards, then Import.
3. Cloze cards become a question with a blank plus the hidden answer.

CSV

Columns: front, back, type, tags. Imports into RemNote, Brainscape, Notion, Google Sheets, and most flashcard apps.

Image occlusion cards have no text form and stay in Hamstr. Cards missing a front or back are skipped; Hamstr tells you how many.

Open the Review tab, pick a deck, answer each card, flip it, then rate how it felt. Hamstr always serves the card you're closest to forgetting — there are no due dates, no daily pile, and no "done".

• Use Again when you missed the card or guessed.
• Use Hard when you remembered it, but it took effort.
• Use Good when you answered correctly with normal effort.
• Use Easy when the answer was immediate.

Filter a session by lecture or topic tag when a quiz covers only part of a deck.

Use Make Cards for facts, processes, images, or instructor hints worth entering yourself. Standard, cloze (highlight text, click Hide), and image occlusion (drag masks over a diagram) are all supported.

Pick a deck before saving so the card lands in the right course. Add Lecture and Topic tags to keep future review focused.

Good cards are small and answerable: one clear question, one clear answer, enough context that your future self knows exactly what is being asked.
